INFORMED CONSENT INTEGRAL PELVIC THERAPY® (IPT)

The information in this form is intended to provide you with all important information about Integral Pelvic Therapy (IPT®), so that you can start the process well-informed.

IPT AND IPTA

IPT is a complementary form of bodywork, aiming to improve your overall (pelvic) health. Keep in mind that this form of bodywork is not yet an evidence-based practice. The effects will vary from person to person and no assurance can be made about any particular outcome.

IPT was developed by Daphne van der Putten and Mariëtte Frits, in collaboration with colleagues. IPT is inspired by the teachings of Dr. Betty Martin: "Wheel of Consent". It is a combination of conscious touch, massage techniques to release blockages in the connective tissue and so-called trigger points, energetic and emotional work.

In this case, the sessions are conducted by me, Martine Wieten. I declare to be officially trained and certified to work as an IPT Practitioner. I am a member of the Integral Pelvic Therapy Association (IPTA) and work according to their standards and protocols. This professional association has a register of complaints and disputes. In case you would want to file a complaint, you can request the necessary information from me.

I do not share information from your personal file with anyone else, unless this is necessary for the treatment, and I have your permission in advance. This may be the case when you are being treated by several professionals and it is needed to discuss your treatment.

In order to provide my clients with the best service, I participate in a peer group, in which we discuss our work. In these conversations I may discuss specific cases. I hereby ensure that I will never provide information that can lead to your identity. If you do not want me to discuss your case with anyone, you may always tell me up front and I will respect your wish.

PREGNANCY

I will not perform IPT treatments if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, as I have not been additionally trained for this. It is therefore important that you inform me if this is the case for you, or if it becomes important during an ongoing process.

If you would like to receive IPT while you are pregnant or trying to conceive, that is certainly a possibility with my colleagues at Dana Centrum Zeist, who have received additional training. In that case, extra knowledge, expertise, care and control is required. They can monitor both you and the baby. For more information, go to: www.danacentrum.nl/

INTAKE & IPT SESSIONS

A session will only be done after an extensive intake conversation, which takes about 60 minutes. There will be at least 24 hours between the intake and the first IPT session.

During the intake we will discuss your personal treatment plan. In order to make the right treatment plan, it is important that you share all relevant information with me. There are certain contraindications where I may decide not to treat or recommend only external touch, and I reserve the right not to work internally.

IPT is not intended to replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. If I deem it necessary, I will refer you to another professional, such as a physiotherapist, gynaecologist, psychologist or general practitioner.

You are never obliged to receive (internal) touch during a session. During the intake we discuss ways to communicate when you do not want to take a certain step or when you want to stop or do not like something. You can indicate this at any time during the session and your no is always leading. We will also discuss what 'embodied consent' means and how we use and discuss this during the session. During the session we will always examine this embodied consent, so that you are able to indicate your limits and wishes.

You are never obliged to receive (internal) touch during a session. During the intake we discuss ways to communicate that you don't want to take a certain step to take place, that you want to stop or don't like something. You can indicate this at any time during the session and your ‘no’ is always respected. We will also discuss what 'embodied consent' means, and how we use and discuss this during the session. During the session we will always examine this embodied consent, so that you are able to indicate your boundaries and wishes.

During the session, you may undress to a level that is comfortable for you. As a practitioner I will always be fully clothed.

The touches during an IPT session have no sexual intention. The subject of sexuality can be part of a treatment. Although you can experience feelings of pleasure or sexual energy, it is not my intention to give sexual stimulation. Therefore, the treatment beholds one-way touch.

If it is important for your process, a third person may be present, such as a partner or friend. However, I would like to be notified in advance.

I work with high hygiene standards. You can take place on a clean massage table, on a hygiene pad covered with clean blankets. I always use gloves (latex-free) when in contact with the vulva or vagina. I will use organic oils and/or water based organic lubricants. If possible, I would like you to be clean and showered before a session.

If you are menstruating, that is no problem for me, unless you would feel uncomfortable with it yourself.

After the IPT session, it is possible that you have a bruised feeling or an increase in your current level of pain or discomfort. Also, you can feel tired, or more emotional after a treatment.

It is important that you drink enough water and rest after the treatment and that you do not perform heavy physical exertion for 24 hours.

A week after the treatment, I’d like to invite you, if you wish, to share your experiences and/or possible questions by email. If there is a need for aftercare, please do not hesitate to contact me.

You have been informed in advance of the costs of the sessions (find them here:https://www.junipersground.nl/integral-pelvic-therapy), and agree to payment in cash or by bank account before or at the latest 14 days after the treatment, unless we have agreed otherwise.

It is possible to cancel or reschedule, at least 48 hours before the start of the session. In case of cancellation within 48 hours before the start of the session, you agree to pay the full session by bankaccount.

By accepting these terms and conditions you declare, that you have read and understood the above information and you hereby consent to an IPT session. You declare that during the intake you will provide all relevant information of any condition that might limit your ability to have this treatment, and that you will inform the practitioner of any relevant changes during the process.
